Every device and every bottle lists a nicotine strength, and it gets written two different ways. They are the same number said differently.
The percentage is nicotine by volume. The milligram figure is milligrams of nicotine per milliliter of liquid.
Multiply the percent by ten to get milligrams. Divide milligrams by ten to get the percent.
5% is 50mg. 3.5% is 35mg. 2.5% is 25mg. 0.6% is 6mg. 0.3% is 3mg.
There are two completely different scales in this shop, and the numbers on them look the same.
Read those last two lines again. A 3mg bottle is not 3%. It is 0.3%, one sixteenth the strength of a 5% disposable.
Someone who has been buying bottled juice for years and running 3mg or 6mg has been on a small fraction of the nicotine of someone on a 5% disposable, without ever thinking of themselves as a light user. That is the single most misunderstood thing in vaping, and it is why the bottle wall and the disposable wall are not the same conversation.
Two kinds of nicotine end up in vape liquid.
Freebase is the older form. It gets harsh in the throat above roughly 6mg to 12mg, which is exactly why bottled juice for bigger devices tops out where it does.
Nicotine salt has an acid added, usually benzoic, which lowers the pH and makes high strengths go down smooth. That is the whole reason a 50mg disposable is tolerable when 50mg freebase would be unsmokeable.
Salt nic did not make anything stronger. It made strong things easy to inhale.
How much nicotine you actually take in is strength times how much liquid you get through.
Someone on a box mod running 3mg juice, going through 10mL in a day, takes in about 30mg of nicotine. Someone on a 5% disposable getting through 2mL takes in 100mg. The one with the “weak” juice is on roughly a third of the nicotine while vaping five times the volume.
That is why the bottled-juice crowd tends to run low and the disposable crowd has no choice in the matter. It is not discipline, it is what the device is built to deliver.
The catch runs the other way too: a small refillable pod filled with 50mg salts is not lower nicotine than a disposable. Device and strength have to move together. Big airy device means low strength. Small tight device means higher strength.
Two ways to inhale, and every device is built for one of them.
Mouth to lung (MTL). You draw the vapor into your mouth first, then inhale it. Tight, restricted draw. It is how you smoke a cigarette. Disposables and small pod systems are MTL.
Direct to lung (DTL). You inhale straight down like you are taking a deep breath. Open, airy, lots of vapor. A box mod with a sub-ohm tank on it is DTL.
Airflow decides which one you get. How tight or open the intake is, and nothing else. Restricted air means you draw into your mouth. Wide open means it goes to your lungs.
Resistance and wattage are chosen to suit that airflow, which is why the ohm number is such a reliable tell. It is a correlation with how the device was designed, not the cause.
Higher resistance, roughly 0.8 ohm and up, means less power through the coil, less vapor, tighter draw. That is MTL territory, and it pairs with high-strength salt nic.
Lower resistance, below 1.0 ohm and often down near 0.15, means more power, more heat, far more vapor. That is DTL, and it pairs with low-strength freebase juice.
The mistake that ruins someone’s day: putting 50mg salt nic in a sub-ohm DTL device. The device is built to produce five times the vapor, and the nicotine hits like a wall. Match the juice to the coil, not to what you had last time.
The part that wears out is not the device, it is the coil. How you replace it depends on which kind of system you are on.
You will know when. Flavor goes flat or turns burnt, vapor drops off, and the draw starts tasting scorched. That is the coil, not the juice. Expect a week to two weeks with normal use, sooner with sweet dessert flavors, which carry heavy sweetener that caramelizes on the coil.
Prime a new coil. Put a few drops of juice directly on the cotton, fill it, and let it sit five minutes before your first pull. Skipping this is the most common way people burn a brand new coil on the very first puff.
Simple. Portable. Convenient.
Some pod systems have a built-in coil (you replace the entire pod), while others let you replace just the coil.
Pod with built-in coil: replace the whole pod when the coil wears out. Pod plus separate coil: refill the pod and replace only the coil.

Tanks come in different styles and sizes, but most use replaceable coils. Coils come in various resistances (e.g. 0.15Ω, 0.2Ω, 0.4Ω, 0.6Ω, 1.0Ω) to give you different levels of vapor, flavor and airflow.

Box mods come in different sizes, power ranges and battery configurations (single or dual battery). They all work the same way, providing variable power to your tank.

Almost every disposable on the market ships at 5%, so most people never learn that anything else exists.
We stock 2% and 0% alongside the standard 5%. If you are stepping down, or you want the ritual without the nicotine, that is the shelf to ask for. On the bottle side, every juice we carry is available at 0mg, and freebase for box mods runs 3mg and 6mg, which is 0.3% and 0.6%.

Both make the full range from small MTL pod systems up to full sub-ohm box mods, both have coils and replacement pods that are actually available rather than discontinued, and we stock the consumables for what we sell. A device you cannot get coils for is a paperweight.

Salt nic has an acid added that makes high strengths smooth enough to inhale, so it is used in disposables and small pod systems. Freebase is harsher at high strength and is used at low strengths in bigger sub-ohm devices.
Not at disposable strength. A sub-ohm device produces far more vapor, so 50mg salts in one delivers an overwhelming amount of nicotine. Sub-ohm devices take low-strength freebase, usually 3mg to 6mg.
